Which opener

Belt drive for quiet, wall mount for headroom

  • Belt drive

The default for an attached garage, especially with a bedroom above it. Quiet, smooth, and built for a heavy insulated door.

  • Wall mount

Mounts beside the door on the torsion bar, so there is no rail on the ceiling. The answer when the ceiling is low, has storage, or you want a lift installed later.

  • Chain drive

Still made and still fine for a detached garage where noise does not matter. We install them when they are the right fit, not by default.

  • Battery backup and smart features

Battery backup comes standard on what we install, so the door opens when the power goes out in a storm. Phone control and keypads are set up on the visit if you want them.

How it goes

Installed, tested, programmed

We check the door balance first, because an opener on an unbalanced door wears out early. Then the old unit comes down, the new one goes up, the photo eyes are set, and the travel and force limits are dialed in. Before we leave, your remotes, keypad, and car buttons are programmed and the door has run through a dozen cycles.

Questions we get on the phone

Opener installation questions

  • How much does a new opener cost installed?

It depends on the model and whether the door needs work first. We confirm the price before any work starts, and you can say no.

  • How long does installation take?

Two to three hours for most garages, including programming.

  • Will a new opener fix a door that is hard to lift?

No. A heavy door is a spring problem, and a new opener will strain the same way. We check balance before we install and tell you if the springs need attention first.

  • Do you take the old opener?

    Yes. It leaves with us.
