When it is time

When repair stops making sense

  • Rust through the bottom section

Salt spray off the driveway eats the lower panel from the inside out. Once it is through the skin, a new section costs almost what a door does.

  • Cracked or delaminated panels

The first generation of insulated steel doors from the 80s and 90s is aging out. The foam separates, the skin oil-cans, and the door gets heavy and loud.

  • An uninsulated door on an attached garage

The garage shares a wall with the house. An R-value that was fine in 1975 costs money every January now. A new insulated door pays for itself in a Wisconsin winter.

  • The door was builder grade and it shows

Fitchburg, Verona, and Sun Prairie were built fast in the 1990s. A lot of those doors are hitting 30 years at the same time. If yours is on its third spring and second opener, it is a replacement, not a repair.

What we install

Insulated steel, sized to the opening

Standard 8, 9, and 16-foot doors for most of Madison. Custom widths and heights for the older detached garages in Nakoma, Vilas, and University Heights, and for the Westmorland houses where an addition changed the opening. Carriage-style panels where the house calls for it.

Every install includes new torsion springs, tracks, rollers, bottom seal, and weather stripping. We take the old door with us.

How it goes

Measure, quote, order, install

We come out, measure the opening and the headroom, and go over panel style, insulation, and windows with you in the driveway. You get the price on the spot. The door is ordered to size. Installation takes most of a day for a two-car door, and you end up with a working door, a programmed opener if you want a new one, and a driveway with no old door in it.

Questions we get on the phone

Garage door installation questions

  • How much does a new garage door cost?

It depends on size, insulation, panel style, and windows. We measure and quote in the driveway, and the quote is the price.

  • How long does installation take?

Most of a day for a two-car door once the door arrives. Lead time on the door itself depends on the manufacturer and whether it is a custom size.

  • Do I need a new opener with a new door?

Not always. If your opener is under ten years old and rated for the new door's weight, we reuse it. If it is a 1990s chain drive, this is the time.

  • Can you match the odd width on my older garage?

Yes. Custom widths and heights are routine on the older Madison houses, and we measure for them specifically.
